How to come to Siem Reap and to visit temples of Angkor
Coming to Siem Reap by air
can not be done by direct flights. You must before stop in one of these following cities, Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Seoul. And Phnom Penh connects Siem Reap several times a day, Luang Prabang (Laos), Chang Mai (Thailand), and some less important cities, from China, Vietnam, Korea or Laos. However, there are probably no direct flights between your country and these different cities
|
|
Coming to Siem Reap by boat
can be done from Phnom Penh (5 hours) or Battambang (3 hours). To do that, you must come on board on Tonle Sap lake shore located 15 km East of Siem Reap
Coming to Siem Reap by bus

The Angkor Pass
An admission pass must be bought at the entry located on the main Siem Reap road going to the Angkor Archaeological Park. The entry fee is 20 US$ for one visit day, 40 US$ for 3 days running, 60 $ for 7 days running. A Passport photo is required to have an entrance ticket, however, staff in cash desk can take a photograph of yourself (free of charge and effectively)

Some temples can not be visited with the Angkor pass, a separate ticket must be bought, it concerns Phnom Kulen, Koh Ker, Beng Melea and Preah Vihear
To help you arrange visits, please consult the whole list of temples from Angkor and from Roluos classified according to location
Visiting hours are from 5 am (to see temples at the sunrise) to 6 pm. Some temples are an exception, it concerns Banteay Srey which closes at 5 pm, Kbal Spean at 3 pm and Preah Vihear at 3.30 pm

How to visit the Angkor Site
You can not visit temples walking. 8 kilometres separate Siem Reap from the first temples, and some kilometres between each temple. And very hot temperatures in Siem Reap will put an end to your goodwill and so you will be unable to fittingly visit temples. For the same reason, hire a bicycle is not really recommended
|
|
The best way is to hire an air-conditioned taxi (about 30 $/jour if you only visit the nearest temples), or a Tuk-Tuk (engine tricycle with a cabin without doors which can take 3 or 4 passengers). It will cost about 15 US$ if you do not visit the more remote temples. Your hotel or guesthouse may propose you a driver, you also can find him yourself easily walking around in the Siem Reap downtown
It is not essential that you hire a guide because your driver knows very well where are located all temples. But, if you want to know more about temples, you can contact one of the numerous travel agencies on the Siem Reap main street, in direction of temples. It will cost about 30 US$ / day
