Priority Temples

Ta Prohm

This romantic temple where nature and men work together to make an amazing exhibition, also was constructed by Jayavarman VII in honour of his mother. Everything is monument in this temple, sculptures, statues, ancient banians (tropical fig trees), and the general effect sets a good example of the conditions in which it was found when the first adventurers discovered it in the 19th century. Ta Prohm was the centre of government of a 60 ha city. Houses of near 100 000 people, do not exist anymore because it was built with wood, bamboo, leaves and reeds. More pics

Preah Khan

Situated on the north of Angkor Thom, this monastic-complex was built in the 12th century and is dedicated to Jayavarman VII’s father. This Bayon style temple originally served as a Buddhist city and a school. But, in the 13th century, some beautiful sandstone Garuda sculptures and Nagas took the place of Buddha images
Preah Khan is also renowned for a beautiful Stupa erected in the central sanctuary, symbolising Buddhism in all its forms

Banteay Srey

More ancient than Angkor Wat, this temple was founded at the end of the 10th Century. It is praised as 'the jewel of the Khmer art' thanks to elaborate decorative wall carvings. This refinement competes with what we can see in Angkor Wat. This temple located 25 km North-East of Siem Reap worths a way round. By way of prove, it practised so sympathetic magic on André Malraux (a dominant figure in French politics and culture) than he tried to steal four Devatas. This incident made good and the 'Société Française de Géographie' honoured France restoring to perfection this wonderful temple. More pics
